In this post, I will guide you through all the different image sizes on Facebook.
Although it is often overlooked, there are actually many different image sizes on Facebook – and here I will try to give you a comprehensive overview.
One of the most searched sizes is the Facebook cover photo – but unfortunately, there is no single definitive answer. The cover photo displays differently on desktop and mobile, making it difficult to find a size that works perfectly on all devices.
Here are the latest recommended sizes:
– Desktop: 820 x 312 px
– Mobile: 640 x 360 px
To achieve the best visual expression on both desktop and mobile, we recommend creating your cover photo at 820 x 360 px. This size provides the optimal width for desktop while also giving the correct height for mobile viewing.
Make sure to center important text and graphic elements in the middle of the image, and avoid placing them too close to the edges. This way, you prevent elements from being cropped by Facebook’s layout or differences in device types.
Note: Be aware that the graphics below are not updated and there are some new guidelines for the cover photo. You should consider which device you expect your cover photo to be mostly viewed on:
A great cover photo creates a strong first impression. Therefore, it is important to consider:
– Is the image being cropped or stretched inappropriately?

If you want to upload a regular image to your Facebook feed and make the most of the space, we recommend using a square format:

Remember to leave some space at the top and bottom so that important elements are not hidden by text or buttons.
When you share a link on Facebook, an image is often displayed alongside the link. To ensure optimal display, Meta recommends the following size:

As the digital world increasingly takes place on mobile, it is also important to understand how to calculate Facebook image sizes for mobile. It becomes a bit more technical and dynamic when talking about mobile sizes – but it is important knowledge overall. When working with image sizes for mobile, you need to understand the term “Aspect Ratio” – directly translated it means format ratio. Simply put: It is the ratio between the width and height of your image. For example, with “Landscape” (when the phone is turned sideways for a wider view), the aspect ratio is “16:9” – but what does that mean?
It means that for every 16 units of width, you need 9 units of height. To simplify the math, if you want 1600 pixels in width, then you also need 900 in height. This maintains the ratio. As long as you work within the specified aspect ratios, the content/image you create will always fit the formats, no matter which phone or tablet it is viewed on – smart!
