There are a variety of image sizes you will need for your LinkedIn profile(s).
Below, we describe the formats / sizes you will most frequently encounter, along with a few things you should be aware of when taking photos or creating graphics for these.
The first thing you will need when creating your LinkedIn profile is a profile photo for your personal LinkedIn profile.
LinkedIn recommends a square image of at least 400 x 400 pixels.
However, this is not exactly how it is shown in the new design.
The image displayed is actually circular and therefore does not keep the dimensions LinkedIn itself recommends.
This means you must ensure there is nothing important at the edges of your image that could get cut off.
Fortunately, LinkedIn helps you along the way! As soon as you upload a photo to LinkedIn, you get a small guide showing, among other things, how it will look when you approve the image. This mini-guide helps you crop your profile picture without having to use Photoshop or similar programs. Convenient and easy!
The second thing you can choose to change on your private profile is the background / cover image at the top of your profile (just as you know it from Facebook). This should be 1584 x 396 pixels.
You can use a larger image as your background / cover photo. However, your image will be cropped to these dimensions.
Below, you can see how it is displayed on my screen, which is 1920 x 1280 pixels. On a larger computer screen, significantly more of the image will be shown compared to my mobile, because the screen is much wider (the ‘tech-grid’ behind my profile photo is what you will see as standard on your profile if you do not upload a cover image):

| Width | Height | |
|---|---|---|
| Profile photo (min.) | 400 px | 400 px |
| Background / Cover photo | 1584 px | 396 px |
For your company profile, the image sizes are very similar to those used on your personal profile. There are basically the same two images you need to consider.
The profile image (logo) and the ‘cover’ image (as you also know from company pages on Facebook).
With the previous design, the logo had a completely different format. Before the change, it was a horizontal, rectangular image used as your company’s logo on your LinkedIn page.
This has changed with the new design and is now square, just like for a personal profile.
Your logo must have at least 400 x 400 pixels to display correctly.
The profile image on a LinkedIn company profile is not cropped to a round format, as is the case for private profiles.
You can also upload a cover photo to company profiles – very similar to that of a personal profile.
The size is not the same as on your personal profile, but instead 1128 x 191 pixels.
Again, you can use a larger image as your background / cover photo. However, it will be cropped to these dimensions.

| Width | Height | |
|---|---|---|
| Profile photo / Logo (min.) | 400 px | 400 px |
| Background / Cover photo | 1128 px | 191 px |
When it comes to image sizes for LinkedIn ads, LinkedIn has actually moved to using the same formats as Facebook (almost, at least).
The most commonly used ad on LinkedIn is the single image ad. Here, LinkedIn uses the image size 1200 x 627 pixels for link ads.
Those who have previously worked with Facebook advertising will recognise this format, as Facebook uses 1200 x 628.
Why there is a one-pixel difference in height, I unfortunately cannot answer.
Note that LinkedIn has some special rules regarding advertising, and there are some things you should pay attention to. You can read more here.
We have collected all current ad formats on LinkedIn. Some formats are only visible on desktop, and only a few formats are available on both mobile and desktop.

As a small extra tip, your campaign objective also affects which types of ads you can create on LinkedIn, and therefore which image sizes you should use.
